Currently, the lotteries in just nine states and the District of Columbia offer ways to purchase Powerball tickets online or through their lottery's mobile app. Those states include: Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, New Hampshire, North Carolina, North Dakota, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

Concerning online bets, around 155.3 million people engage in various online wagers, around 9.6% of the total gambling population. The 2024 figures for online gamblers increased by 15.38% from the previous year's 134.6 million users, with online sports bets contributing the most with 108.9 million users in 2024.

The growing internet penetration and rise in the use of mobile phones among users for playing online games is increasing the demand for online gambling.
